Motivation Before the Bar Exam

If you’re reading this, chances are you are about to take the bar exam. If you’re about to take the bar exam, chances are that you could use some advice and words of encouragement to get you through the rest of this month. Well look no further for today’s dose of before-the-bar motivation…just keep reading.
You are amazing. No, AdaptiBar isn’t just trying to flatter you. You really you are. That’s pretty amazing considering less than 150,000 people per year attend law school in the US, 20 to 40 percent of which drop out after their first year. But guess what? You didn’t, which means that you already have perseverance and dedication, two key traits to passing the bar exam.

As exam day approaches, of course, AdaptiBar understands that it does become increasingly easy to feel overwhelmed. But it’s in such moments of discouragement that a little positivity goes a long way. Nevertheless, take note of the following 5 motivational tips to help you keep a positive mindset before the bar exam:

  1. Clear your mind of “can’t” – Eliminate every ounce of doubt you have about what you do or do not know, and begin telling yourself that you CAN and WILL take and pass the bar exam. A positive mindset reaps positive results.
  2. Stop worrying – Walt Disney said it best, “Why worry? If you’ve done the very best you can, worrying won’t make it any better.” Worrying cannot change a situation, but hard work and determination will. Similarly, it’s more productive for you to concentrate on how you can better attain success instead of scrutinizing what could go wrong.
  3. Be patient – Success is a staircase, not a doorway. If you find yourself getting discouraged or stressed about something on the exam, take a deep breath and just keep going. You always know more than you think you do.
  4. Stay Focused – Tune out all the negativity and anxiety of the people around you. When you focus on other people’s problems, you leave room for distractions and self-doubt to creep in.  Keep focused on your own goals and don’t look in any direction but ahead.
  5. Eliminate Your Boundaries – You are confined only by the walls you build yourself. Tear down your predetermined expectations and limitations, because there are none when it comes to how you are capable of performing on the exam.

The key to high performance is not only getting motivated, but staying motivated. Thomas Edison took more than 40,000 pages of notes and tested more than 1,000 prototypes before creating the light bulb. This doesn’t mean to imply that you must take thousands of pages of notes and fail the bar exam numerous times before you can pass it, but rather that consistent hard work and determination are the primary keys to success. Never give up on the bar exam, whether you’re studying for or taking it. After all, imagine if Edison had stopped working on the light bulb after his 999th test!
So in any moment of doubt or discouragement, remind yourself that you’re almost there. You’ve worked hard for months, meaning you shouldn’t stop now, and soon it will all come to an end. In the meantime, however, study hard, stay determined, and keep positive, because in less than a month you will be able to say that you completed the most difficult test you will most likely ever take, the bar exam.
